We are excited to announce the release of the new UKHab & BNG Platform today. Designed to help you with the entire life cycle of your UKHab surveys and BNG work, the Platform comprises two significant updates:
Firstly, we are launching v3.0 of the UKHab Survey App. Built in partnership with the lead author of the UKHab classification, this latest update brings the UKHab Survey App fully in line with the Statutory Biodiversity Metric and includes a host of enhancements designed to further streamline your UKHab and BNG workflows.
Secondly, we’re unveiling a new version of the UKHab Portal – which is now called The UKHab & BNG Platform, to better reflect its purpose. The new platform, together with the UKHab Survey App, is the ultimate one-stop shop for your UKHab Surveys and BNG assessments. The Platform integrates seamlessly with the UKHab Survey App, helping you with your entire survey workflow.
Take a look at the video below for an overview of the process:
What’s new in version 3.0 of the App?
- Fully compliant with the statutory metric
- The species list now includes all UK bryophytes and lichens in addition to all UK plant species. You can also now add “Other” species where required
- Easily record species per quadrat or per habitat generally, ensuring accurate data collection that meets reporting requirements for BNG
- Access relevant species faster using the new ‘Recent’ tab
- Condition assessment notes are now recorded per question, ensuring your report contains all the necessary information and structured in the right format
- The new ‘Species Feature Note’ form now gives you the ability to add target notes as you complete your UKHab survey
You can find all the latest updated UKHab Survey documentation here.
What’s new in the updated Platform?
We’ve made a lot of changes to the Platform; all of them aimed at saving you time and helping you to minimise errors:
- Improved workflow around creating new UKHab projects and importing your redline boundaries
- Overlay protected site boundaries on your maps to understand the context of your sites. This includes SSSIs, NNRs, RAMSAR and AONBs
- Set strategic significance within the Platform to view metric units directly, and further streamline the export of data into the biodiversity metric calculation tool
- See even more detail about your habitat features including all of your sample data, plus access any species feature notes
